BIKING IN THE VILLAGES
The Villages is a great place to go for a bike ride, with over 500 miles of roads and more than 146 miles of paved Multi-Modal Paths that connect all of the residences, businesses and amenities in the community. Multi-Modal Paths are open to all modes of transportation except automobiles and motorcycles. Golf carts are allowed and are very common, so caution must be taken. The VillagesGPS app is a great resource to plan your ride throughout The Villages. Riding your bike through the golf courses, even if you stay on the paved golf cart paths, is not allowed.
The Bicycle Friendly Advocacy Council conducted a survey a few years ago that showed in order of popularity that bikers ride on neighborhood streets (79%), Multi-Modal Paths (70%), two lane streets with dedicated bike lanes (66%), and four lane roadways (32%). You should consider your level of riding experience, ability and riding desires when deciding where to ride. The neighborhood streets and Multi-Modal Paths have speed limits of 20 mph (or slower if posted), so if you are a racer you may want to choose the main road with higher speed limits. All traffic rules are applicable.
